During Spring break, 2008, Vanessa Skocz and 6 other student journalists teamed up with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s College of Journalism and Mass Communication’s in-depth reporting project in the newly independent state of Kosovo. They spent eight days reporting, documenting and observing poverty within Kosovo. Not knowing what to expect and only planning so far, they didn’t know what to expect until they were engrossed among litter packed streets, roads filled with potholes, power outages on a daily basis and people dying from pollution due to the power plant not to far from Pristina, the capital. The stories will forever remain a lasting impression among them, as did the they on the citizens of Kosovo.
